5 SECRETS TO LOOKING BANGING IN A BODYCON

The first dress I ever made was an off shoulder bodycon (See it here). I had just spent all day on YouTube
trying to learn everything I needed to know about making a dress but even then I forgot to check the stretch of the fabric before I cut out my pattern among other mistakes. I kept trying and eventually ended up with that dress. Wore the life out of it and each time people thought I looked great. Little did they know it was one piece of tailoring mistakes. The thing about Fashion is its Dynamic and one size does not fit all, you have to make it work for you.

Up until yesterday I had been using the word bodycon without even the slightest hint of curiosity as to what it meant. Turns out it means 'Body Conscious' This is a ridiculously appropriate name for this style as it really does make you question all the things that make you human, like our thunderous thighs, bulging tummy and flabby arms.  While we could totally leave this style to the skinny and toned it wouldn't be fare to the remaining 90% of us women so we have to make it work. Today I share with you 5 secrets you need to look banging in a bodycon regardless of your body type.

1. The fit - Obvious as it seems I have seen people wear bodycon dresses a size or two bigger. This is just wrong as the whole point of a bodycon is that it hugs all your curves gracefully. I say gracefully because you shouldn't wear it any size smaller either. You want a bodycon that fits right and does not leave some parts of your body bulging out of it.

2. Height matters - Go for a bodycon dress whose hemline cuts right at your knees or above them anything longer that cuts anywhere around the calf muscle will make your legs look shorter and make you look bigger which is not very flattering. Wear your bodycon with heels as not only does it make you look taller and slimmer but it also improves your posture and makes your bum pop.

3. Smooth it out - bodycon dresses reveal every single bump on your your body, even the slightest bulge. You have wear it with fitted seamless undergarments because panty lines have never and will never be flattering. For an extra tuck don't be shy to try out  Shape-wear (Body Shapers) as they help smooth out your body making you look curvier and toned.

4. Its all in the details - I will always stress on playing up your best features, be it your arms, cleavage, your collar bone or your back etc. get a bodycon that shows off these features (but don't be too revealing) this can be achieved through patterns and prints, textures or even cut outs.remember you can also use details to down play the parts of your body you are insecure about.

When I made this red dress I wanted to bring attention to my shoulders so I went for a braided detail around the neck and left my shoulders bare. this way it calls attention to that area.

5. Add a layer - Throwing a scarf, a waist clincher, sweater or coat will add some edge to your look and is a good way to wear a bodycon without feeling very exposed.
