I'm in USIU, I see crazy things when it comes to fashion all the time but I happened to have missed
this one. My friend tells me a freshman came to school dressed head to toe in the American flag. I mean she was wearing a tee with the American flag on it, American flag tights and shoes with the American flag print.. I don't even know where one would get shoes with the American flag print.  I like that she was being creative and channeling what ... I don't know what. But there is a right and a wrong way to pull off a matchy matchy. I remember our house-help when I was in primary school would help me dress up and she taught me that in order to look stylish my top had to match my shoes and my accessories and boy you should have seen me in everything pink or green or some crazy ass color feeling like I'm the most stylish person ever.

Flash forward to today and that feeling is still there but I can now pull off a matchy matchy without looking crazy. Here are some tips to help you pull off a matchy matchy like a pro.

The colors- matching up an all red look is a lot more scary than matching an all black or a navy blue, when matching out your look go for neutral colors or dark colors as bright colors have the potential to look a lot more overdone.

Take advantage of prints- Instead of wearing one color all through for your matchy matchy outfit you could match your pants to the red polka dots on your top or your top to the purple strip on your skirt. This is one of the most downplayed ways to pull of a matchy matchy and it looks amazing.

Proximity matters- Matching your top to your shoes may look a little off given the distance between the two, so why not try and match items that are close to each other, like your top/coat to your handbag or your dress to your shoes.

Contrast- Matchy matchy looks are not always all one color or print you may decide to play around with everything pink but throw on some black pants. in such a situation try to play around with colors that are not too contrasting this way your look is easier on the eye.

Your accessories- you can use your accessories to match out your outfit ie. by wearing all silver accessories or all gold,  you could also match them to the gold polka dots on your Romper.

So there you have it 5 simple ways to pull off a matchy matchy look without looking crazy. which one did you like?

For this particular matchy matchy look, I decided to match my Navy blue dress from @keekyscollection to my navy shoes and for a pop of color went for all gold accessores from @kipatounbranded
